What type of Meditation do we teach?
At the Temple of Dawn Meditation Center a combination of Samadhi and Vipasana Meditations techniques are taught
Samadhi, or concentration of the mind (one- wontedness of mind), is the Sanskrit term for the state of consciousness induced by complete meditation
Upon development of Samadhi, one's mind becomes temporarly purified of defilements, calm, tranquil, and luminous. Samadhi is used to prepare the mind for Vipassana, pacifying the mind and strengthening the concentration in order to allow the work of insight
Vipassana is one of Asia s most ancient forms of techniques of Meditation, attributed to Gautama Buddha, It is a way of self transformation through self- observation and introspect rum. In English
Vippassana is often referred to as Insight Meditation. Vipassana is described by its promotional literature as "the ability to see things as they really are, through a process of self-observation
It has been said that Samatha/Samadhi meditation and Vipassana/insight meditation are the two wheels of the chariot of the noble eightfold path and the Buddha strongly recommended developing them both
